Video of Preston Davey laughing released as police say 'remember the victim'

Footage shows Preston Davey prior to his adoption

Video footage has been released of a happy and laughing Preston Davey as police urge people to remember the 13-month-old baby who was later murdered by the man who had adopted him.

Preston Davey died in July 2023 at the hands of Jamie Varley, 37, who was given a whole life prison sentence on Thursday after subjecting the baby boy to physical, sexual and emotional abuse during the final four months of his life.

Varley's partner, John McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, was found guilty of sexual assault, child cruelty and allowing the death of a child. He was sentenced to 25 years in jail.

Following the sentencing hearing at Preston Crown Court, Det Ch Insp Andy Fallows said: "I don't want the victim in this case, baby Preston Davey, to be lost in the headlines."

Fallows added: "I know [the] headlines will understandably be about Varley and McGowan-Fazakerley and their truly abhorrent crimes.

"However, I don't want the victim in this case, baby Preston Davey, to be lost in the headlines.

"He was a happy and thriving boy who would have been celebrating his fourth birthday [on Tuesday], if it wasn't for the actions of Varley and McGowan-Fazakerley."
