A new Les Bourgs charity shop selling only children's clothes and toys is to be opened at Oatlands Village.

Until now, only smaller niche shops have been allowed to operate at the tourist attraction so that money is not taken away from businesses in St Peter Port and The Bridge.

But a deal struck with the States means charity shops selling only children's items can be set up on the site.

Rob Jones, CEO of Les Bourgs, which supports people suffering from life-limiting illnesses, said the hospice was "incredibly grateful" for the outcome.

Les Bourgs Hospice was opened in Guernsey by Greville Mitchell OBE and Lisa Mitchell in 1991 and earns revenue from its shops.

"Like all hospices, Les Bourgs faces ongoing funding challenges," said Jones.

"It is only through the generosity of our community, local businesses, and the States of Guernsey that we can continue to provide hospice care in the Bailiwick.

"We are incredibly grateful for the support of the owners and team at Oatlands, as well as the planning officers and committee."

Oatlands Village said it would do its "utmost to make this very profitable for Les Bourgs".
