A man has suffered life-threatening injuries after he was shot in the head in Bradford, police said.

Armed officers were called to Gaythorne Road in West Bowling at about 23:00 BST on Wednesday and a 28-year-old man taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

West Yorkshire Police said the gun was fired from a white BMW car, with the vehicle later found burnt out on the nearby Brompton Road.

The force believed the shooting, at the junction of Parsonage Road, to be a "targeted attack", with officers asking for anyone with information to get in contact.

Police remain at the scene to carry out investigation work, with extra patrols in the area on Thursday.

Det Ch Insp Dan Bates said: "This is a very serious incident where a lethal weapon has been used on the streets of Bradford.

"From initial enquiries we believe this to be a targeted attack.

"Firearms incidents are rare in our communities, but when they do occur no stone is left unturned to bring those responsible to justice."
