Mum of three 'petrified' during suspected petrol bomb attack
BBCA mother of three, whose home was damaged in a suspected petrol bomb attack, has praised her teenage son for putting out the flames.
Roberta McElwee's house was targeted on Sperrin Road in Limavady in the early hours of Thursday morning.
No one was injured but the front door was damaged.
"I heard my son screaming. I looked out my window and saw flames at my front door. We were petrified and the smell of petrol was so strong," she said.
Roberta and her three children were in bed at the time when a loud bang was heard.
"Just before one o'clock in the morning I put my phone down to go to sleep and heard a merciful bang," she said.
"Corey is 14 and has heart conditions. He went through heart surgery at just eight days old. His bravery was incredible."
She said her son ran to the kitchen to get buckets of water to put the flames out.
"My other two children are aged eight and seven. They wouldn't waken up and the shock and fear of what could potentially have happened was going through my head."
The flames did not make it into the house but scorch damage was caused to the door.
Roberta told BBC News NI she will not leave her home and appealed to anyone with information to come forward to police.
"Whoever knows who did this and why please speak up."
Police have appealed for anyone with information, or who may have CCTV or doorbell footage, to come forward.
"I was scared at the time but I will not leave my home," Roberta said.
She added her family, friends and neighbours "have all been here helping me" to clean up the damage.
