A block of flats has been evacuated and a man arrested after a suspected explosion in Ipswich town centre.

Suffolk Police was called to Princes Street just before 20:45 BST and found several windows had been damaged.

It said there were no reports of any injuries but residents were asked to leave as a precaution and the street remained closed on Saturday morning.

An 18-year-old man was being questioned on suspicion of arson and criminal damage with intent to endanger life.

Police said he remained in custody as inquiries continued to establish the circumstances of the incident.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue and the East of England Ambulance Service were also in attendance.
