Trespassers on line cause rail delays
PA MediaRail passengers have been facing disruption this evening due to trespassers on the line at Stockport, Avanti West Coast has said.
Disruption between Manchester Piccadilly and Wilmslow, Macclesfield and Hazel Grove was expected until 19:45 BST after emergency services were called to the incident at 17:00, National Rail said.
All lines between these stations had been closed but have since reopened "following trespassers on the railway at Stockport", Avanti West Coast said.
Passengers are still encouraged to check for updates before travelling due to residual delays.
A National Rail spokesperson said: "As service recovers, trains may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or diverted. Disruption is expected until 19:45."
Services affected included:
- Avanti West Coast between Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston
- CrossCountry between Manchester Piccadilly and Bristol Temple Meads, Paignton or Bournemouth
- East Midlands Railway between Liverpool Lime Street and Nottingham or Norwich
- Northern between Manchester Piccadilly and Hazel Grove, Chester, Alderley Edge, Buxton, Crewe or Stoke-on-Trent
- TransPennine Express between Liverpool Lime Street and Cleethorpes
- Transport for Wales between Manchester Piccadilly and Milford Haven, Pembroke Dock or Cardiff Central
