Another deputy is set to resign from Guernsey's Employment and Social Security Committee (ESS).

A proposal to approve Deputy Garry Collins' resignation has been submitted for debate at the next States meeting, which starts on 15 July.

Collins had previously expressed concerns about the levels of savings being made by ESS and whether they went far enough. He has said he won't be making a statement on his resignation until the States sits in two weeks time.

Committee president Tina Bury said the announcement had come as a shock and she was "disappointed" not to have had the opportunity to discuss his concerns and ideally resolve them around the committee table.

She said: "Collins' resignation from the committee today has caught me by surprise, as he did not inform me of his decision or his reasoning before the notice was published by the Greffier.

"Committee politics is never easy, but I believe that working things through and finding consensus is in the best interests of the community we serve.

"Nonetheless, I wish him the best with whatever he turns his attention to next, and will turn my attention to filling his space at the committee table with another capable member."

If approved, Collins' resignation will follow the departure of Deputy David Dorrity from the committee earlier this year.

Deputy Ross Le Brun replaced Dorrity on the committee last month.

On Tuesday, Deputy Haley Camp announced she was set to leave the Committee for Economic Development, citing an "autocratic rather than collaborative" leaderships style at the committee.

Any politician looking to replace Collins on ESS would need a proposed and a seconder before being nominated to stand for the vacancy on the committee.

Collins' resignation would be the sixth committee resignation in the first year of this States term, after the resignations of: Jonathan Le Tocq, Jayne Ozanne, Gavin St Pier, David Dorrity and Haley Camp.
