A horse that became stuck in a muddy bog has been freed by firefighters.

Crews were called to the animal rescue on Northill Road in Cople, near Bedford, on Thursday.

Firefighters from Biggleswade, Bedford and Kempston fire stations used specialist animal rescue equipment to free the horse.

It is the second incident of a horse rescue in a week after fire crews were called to a similar incident in Wilden on Wednesday.

On both occasions the horse was left in the care of the owner and a vet.

In a social media post, Biggleswade Community Fire Station praised the efforts of those involved in the latest rescue and said: "Thanks to all crews for their skill and teamwork."

"The horse is now back on all four hooves," the service added.
