Tributes have been paid to a "kind and caring" grandfather who died in a motorcycle crash.

Emergency services were called to the single-vehicle crash on Mackadown Lane, in Tile Cross, Birmingham, at 05:55 BST on Monday.

The rider, Stephen Peek, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment, where he died shortly after.

In a tribute to the 61-year-old, his family said their "hearts were completely broken".

"We lost our dad, husband, grandad and best friend," they added. "He was the kindest, most caring man you could ever meet.

"He always had time for people, always took others under his wing, and would help anyone who needed it. He touched so many lives without ever asking for anything in return.

"Motorbikes were his passion. With 47 years of riding experience, he loved being on his bike and often said that if he ever had to go, it would be doing what he loved most.

"He leaves behind his heartbroken wife, son, daughter and grandchildren, who were his absolute world. The hole he has left in our lives can never be filled, and we will miss him every single day.

"Thank you for all the love, support and kind messages we have received. We will carry him with us always. Ride free Dad. We love you forever."

West Midlands Police said it was continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, and urged any witnesses or motorists with dashcam footage to contact the force.
