The brother of a woman who died in a car crash has described her as a "loving mother".

Emma Smith, 37, was killed in the crash involving two BMWs on the A35 in west Dorset on 22 October.

A 35-year-old man from Poole was arrested on suspicion of a driving offence and has since been released on police bail while inquiries continue.

Ms Smith's brother Shane Morrison said the death had left the family shocked and they were now raising money to buy a headstone for her grave.

"Emma was feisty but a big kid at heart" said Mr Morrison, 34, who found out about the crash on his way to work.

"I was in the car, my mum had tried to ring me about eight or nine times and I thought she was trying to get hold of me after getting back from holiday.

"When I answered I could hear it in her tone of voice and I thought it was about her being in hospital over the last couple of months.

"But, then she started to cry and she said 'I don't know how to tell you this but your sister passed away in a car crash'."

Shane described the next few hours as a blur and does not remember much about what he did.

"I think I told my husband and I must have rung my big boss at work to say that I wasn't going to be in," he said.

He said as siblings they were close growing up.

"When something like this happens, you have all these flashbacks of things," he said.

"It all just runs through your head, like bike rides together, your evenings down the river, sleepovers and we used to have these big Halloween parties.

"She was also incredibly kind and would have given you her last pound if she had it."

Shane said his sister was a family orientated person who was also very close to her mother and grandmother.

The crash happened near Askerswell, between Dorchester and Bridport, at about 00:05 BST.

A 28-year-old man from Plymouth was also taken to hospital with life-changing injuries.
