Man remanded in custody over north Belfast murder

A 41-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of north Belfast man Paul Mackin Junior.

Thomas McCauley from Fianna House, Queens Parade in Belfast is accused of the murder of the 44-year-old.

Mackin was seriously injured in an attack inside Eithne House in Duncairn Parade on Monday. He died in hospital on Wednesday.

A police officer told Belfast Magistrates' Court she could connect Mccauley to the charges. There was no application for bail. He was remanded into custody.

Family and friends of Mr Mackin sat in the public gallery as the hearing took place on Friday.

The accused will appear again on 21 August.

Two other men, aged 40 and 32, who were arrested earlier in the week on suspicion of attempted murder have both been released unconditionally.

McCauley also faces another two charges.

They include imprisoning a woman against her will, and grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to another woman.

Those alleged offences also took place on Monday.
