New TV thriller to be filmed at city's town hall

Having attracted the likes of Batman, Harry Potter and Peaky Blinders over the years, Liverpool has become one of the UK's popular filming locations outside of London.

Now a new Channel 4 thriller is set to take over Liverpool Town Hall as shooting in the city resumes on Monday.

Production crews behind Army of Shadows will be based in the city's civic headquarters to film several new scenes.

The six-part series has been adapted by Ronan Bennett, who is renowned for his role as a showrunner on Top Boy, MobLand and Day of the Jackal.

The series stars BAFTA-winning Paddy Considine (House of The Dragon, MobLand), Academy Award nominated and Golden Globe winner America Ferrera (Barbie, The Lost Bus), Alex Hassell (Rivals, Wasteman) and Kit Harington (Industry, Game of Thrones).

Lisa Gunning (Black Doves, The Power) will direct all six episodes.

The drama was inspired by Jean-Pierre Melville's 1969 film and Joseph Kessel's book of the same name, which famously dramatised the emergence of the French Resistance to the Nazi occupation of France during World War Two.

Army of Shadows is a new story by Bennett about how resistance takes shape in an occupied Great Britain.

The series has been developed and produced with the support of the Melville family and the Kessel estate, which is controlled by the Irish Red Cross.
