An 18-year-old woman has died six days after being seriously injured by a loading vehicle.

The incident happened in Chalkwell Park, Southend-on-Sea, at about 00:30 BST on Saturday.

Essex Police said a group of people were reported to have "taken unauthorised control of a small articulated loading vehicle" prior to the woman being hurt.

An 18-year-old man from Westcliff-on-Sea and a boy, 17, from Leigh-on-Sea, were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and were bailed until September.

The woman sustained "significant injuries" during the incident, police said.

They added: "She was taken to hospital but, sadly, has since died and officers are continuing to support her family."

Detectives have been continuing their inquiries since Saturday, when a cordon was put in place.

They said a large number of young people were in the park at the time and urged them to get in touch.

"We need anyone who has information and who we've not already spoken with to come forward," a police spokesman added.
