End near for four-month long Five Lamps roadworks

Roadworks which have been in place for four months at a junction in Derby are set to come to an end this week.

The works have taken place since September to upgrade traffic lights, install new railings and resurface Five Lamps, which connects Kedleston Road and Duffield Road to the city centre.

Derby City Council's cabinet member for transport, Councillor Carmel Swan told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that the work, expected to finish on Thursday, had been carried out "on budget and on track to be completed before Christmas".

However, she apologised for "disturbance" to residents for the "disruption" that the works, particularly overnight resurfacing, had caused.

The council said the aim of the works was to "deliver faster and more reliable journeys" and said previous traffic signals at Five Lamps had not been upgraded for about 20 years.

Swan said: "Once complete, the new smart signal technology will deliver faster and more reliable journeys by improving traffic flow and bus efficiency, while also reducing energy costs and carbon emissions.

"The much-loved Victorian railings on Duffield Road will also be refurbished as part of the wider scheme."
