A contractor has been taken to hospital after falling from a height at a college in Liverpool.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said the man was found "conscious and breathing at about 09:20 BST in an enclosed room on a rooftop" at the LIPA Sixth Form College, which is having a new roof on Upper Duke Street.

He was safely brought down to the ground by firefighters using an aerial platform and taken to hospital with a leg injury. The North West Ambulance Service said his injuries were not thought to be serious.

There was a road closure in place while emergency crews dealt with the incident, which LIPA Sixth Form College principal Edward Pinner said would not impact Thursday's enrolments.

Pinner said: "We hope the man has a speedy recovery and send him our best wishes.

"We are open for enrolments and looking forward to seeing our new students".
