A 20-year-old man has appeared in court after a teenage girl died in the car he was driving.

Richard Robinson, of Birch Road in Kingswood, Bristol, appeared at Swindon Magistrates' Court to face a charge of causing death by dangerous driving following the death of 16-year-old Toya Jefferies.

The teenager, from Royal Wootton Bassett, was a passenger in a car which crashed between Rushton and Hilmarton, Wiltshire, on 29 August 2023. She died at the scene.

Robinson was released on bail and was due to appear at Swindon Crown Court on 24 July.

Jefferies' family had previously said the teenager was "a little firecracker who touched everyone's hearts".

In a statement, the family said: "Toya was the most beautiful, amazing daughter.

"She was loved by everyone she met and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends."
