Housing plans for first new village approved

Plans to build a new village with 593 homes in North Lincolnshire have been approved.

The development forms part of North Lincolnshire Council's wider Trent Vale vision which aims to create six distinct villages on the western edge of Scunthorpe.

Ashmere will be the first village to be built and work is expected to start later in the year, the authority said.

Council leader Rob Waltham said: "This marks the point where the Trent Vale vision becomes reality."

He added: "This is about creating places where people will want to live for generations.

"We're creating communities with green spaces, walking and cycling routes and the infrastructure needed to support family life."

The Keepmoat development, which also includes provision for a small commercial unit, will be built on land east of the M181 and north of Burringham Road, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Plans for a new bypass to provide the infrastructure needed for the new villages, Ashmere, Woldmere, Burgess Croft, Burleigh Green, Brumby Green and Southgate Hollow, have also recently been approved.
