No further action after death of missing teenager

No further action will be taken against two people who had been arrested in connection with an investigation into the death of a teenager, police say.

Human remains found in the River Taw near Sticklepath in June were confirmed as being those of Taylor Charlton after he disappeared, aged 14, on 8 May.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a man in his 20s and a woman in her 40s who had been arrested on suspicion of murder were no longer being treated as suspects.

Det Insp Elaine Westerman said there was currently no indication of any third-party involvement in Taylor's death, which was not being treated as suspicious.

Police, specialist teams, divers, drones and search dogs searched the River Taw and the surrounding estuary for weeks in search of Taylor.

Senior investigating officer Det Insp Elaine Westerman said: "These arrests were made as part of our commitment to fully investigating all avenues of inquiry and leaving no stone unturned in finding answers for Taylor's family.

"Following a full and thorough investigation, we are satisfied that neither of these individuals have had any involvement in Taylor's disappearance or death."

She said a file would be prepared for the coroner.

Westerman said: "Taylor's family have been updated on these developments and continue to be supported by specially-trained officers.

"Our thoughts and sympathies remain with them along with Taylor's friends and the local community."

She asked members of the public to help the force by "avoiding speculation" and by not sharing any unconfirmed information online.
