An investigation is under way into what caused a major fire at a shopping centre in Leicestershire.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said it received multiple calls to the blaze affecting several units at Thurmaston Shopping Centre, in Barkby Thorpe Lane, at about 04:00 BST on Saturday.

The fire service said on Monday that the cause was undetermined, and the incident had been now handed over to the police and demolition teams.

Leicestershire Police said earlier on Monday they believed the fire had been started deliberately, but later said investigators were still working to determine how the blaze began.

There were no reports of any injuries, the fire service added.

Police have asked for anyone with information to contact them.

A cardfactory spokesperson said: "Our store was closed at the time of the incident and thankfully none of our colleagues were in the building at the time.

"We are supporting all affected colleagues and offering alternative shifts in neighbouring stores while we work closely with the relevant authorities to understand more about how this incident occurred."
