'Explosions' warning ahead of training exercise

Residents have been warned they may hear "several low-level, low-impact explosions" during planned ordnance disposal training next week.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Search Unit (EOD&S) is expected to carry out the exercise between 08:00 and 13:00 BST around Fort Le Marchant on Monday, Guernsey Police said.

There will be no vehicle or pedestrian access to the area during that time and a cordon will be in place throughout.

The force advised dog walkers to keep their pets on leads in the area, and warned "appropriate mitigations" be put in place for livestock "to cause the least amount of stress to them".

It added: "The training is a necessary exercise carried out annually by the EOD&S Unit to ensure they remain well prepared for events that could affect the Bailiwick of Guernsey."
