Plans for primary school rebuild revealed
St Andrew's C of E Primary SchoolPlans to demolish a primary school and build a new one on the same site have been revealed.
Consultation documents drawn up for St Andrew's School in Shifnal propose the creation of two L-shaped buildings.
The school said it also wanted to create a multi-use games area, with two netball courts, and an extension to the playing field.
The school currently has 395 children and the rebuild would give it a capacity of 420, along with a new 26-place nursery.
Head teacher Amanda Skidmore said: "The new school build represents an investment in the Shifnal community and will provide generations of children with an exciting place to learn, play and to flourish."
Plans to redevelop the school were originally drawn up in 2023, but the project was hit by delays and failed to go ahead.
At the time, Shropshire Council said the redevelopment was needed because the school was "no longer capable of providing sufficient accommodation", due to the increasing number of new homes being built in the town.
If planning approval is granted, the work would be carried out in phases to keep the school open.
Most of the existing buildings would be removed, with construction traffic entering the site from the A464 Wolverhampton Road.
The school said once the work was completed, a new pedestrian entrance would be created on Wolverhampton Road.
The new school would have a bio-solar roof and the forest garden would be expanded to include an edible garden and a sensory garden.
A consultation event to explain the plans will be held at the school on 22 June.
