Services at a GP surgery that suddenly closed in October are due to resume in August.

The Hollies, in Hadleigh, Essex, will reopen as Rectory Road Surgery on 3 August, the NHS Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB) said.

The surgery closed unexpectedly on 31 October after the resident doctor was suspended by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Warren Gibson, the deputy leader of Castle Point Borough Council, said it had been an "extraordinary situation" that was both disruptive and confusing for patients.

"I hope that the new practice supports them in this next period of adjustment," the Independent councillor said.

The reopening follows months of legal discussions between the GP practice team and the building's landlord, as well as a previously suggested return in March.

Patients, of which there are 12,800, have been cared for at alternative sites since October and they do not need to re-register when the practice reopens.

Tom Abell, the chief executive of NHS Essex, said it had been a "challenging period".

"I would like to apologise to patients for the disruption they have experienced," he added.

Dame Rebecca Harris, the Conservative MP for Castle Point, said: "I'm very pleased that this has finally been resolved, after months of uncertainty for residents."

Dr Olusegun Olatokunbo Omosini was the resident GP at The Hollies prior to his registration being suspended.

He was warned by the CQC in July 2025 "for failing to manage medicines safely" and due to concerns about governance systems in place.

Omosini was then formally suspended by the watchdog on 30 October.

The BBC has asked the CQC for an update on its investigation into the doctor.
