A firm that has been making components for kettles on the Isle of Man for more than 40 years said it has taken the "commercial decision" to close its Manx factory.

Strix, which was established on the island in 1982, said it could not yet confirm how many employees at the Ramsey plant would be made redundant as a result of the closure.

The company said it had made the decision to move production to its China facility "in response to pressures on its sustainability considerations and global supply".

It said talks were ongoing with affected staff and planned to keep its Ronaldsway head office open.

In a statement, Strix said it was "constantly looking at how to improve its efficiencies as well as reduce its environmental impact".

The firm, which was established on the island in 1982, is a leader in the design and supply of kettle safety controls, heating and temperature controls, steam management and water filtration technologies.
