Police watchdog investigating force's actions in lead-up to woman's death

The police watchdog is investigating the force's actions in the lead-up to the death of a woman allegedly killed by her ex-partner in Edinburgh.

Vikki Soloman, 44, was found with serious injuries and later pronounced dead at a house on Craigievar Square, in the East Craigs area of the city, on Monday 20 July.

Lee Greenan was charged with her murder and made no plea when he appeared in court. The 46-year-old was found dead at HMP Edinburgh on Sunday morning.

Now the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (Pirc) has confirmed Police Scotland were contacted before the day the mother-of-two was killed.

Pirc's head of investigations, Raymond Brown, said: "Our thoughts are with all of those who have been affected following the tragic death of Vikki Soloman in Edinburgh on 20 July 2026.

"We are investigating the police contact that was made prior to this date and will report our findings to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service in due course."

In a statement released through Police Scotlnd earlier this week, Vikki Soloman's family said they were "determined to pursue justice for Vikki" after she died "so young and in such tragic circumstances".

They added: "The loss of a devoted mother has left an irreplaceable loss.

"Furthermore, news of the passing of Lee Greenan, the man charged with her murder, is another bitter blow to the family."

Police said there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances around Greenan's death in prison.

The Scottish Prison Service said a fatal accident inquiry would be held into his death in due course.
