A weather warning of heavy rain is to come into force on the Isle of Man as forecasters warn of surface water flooding.

The yellow weather warning will be in place from 06:00 GMT until 21:00 on Tuesday, with up to 2 inches (50mm) of rain expected.

Ronaldsway Met Office said strengthening south to south easterly winds were set to bring prolonged periods of heavy rain.

Meanwhile, the Isle of Man Steam Packet has warned of potential disruption or cancellation to Tuesday's 08:00 Manxman sailing to Heysham and 13:45 return due to the adverse weather.

Forecasters have warned of potential surface water flooding in prone places or where drains are already blocked due to the already saturated ground.

The Met Office said river levels were also expected to rise quickly.

Civil Defence Isle of Man has urged members of the public to clear leaves from drains or gutters before the heavy rain kicks in.

Sandbags are also available outside Civil Defence headquarters in Tromode, it added.
