A pub landlord says he is worried for the future of his business as takings are down nearly a third while he waits for a bridge to be repaired.

Billy Hutchinson, owner of The Lesters Arms in Brewood, Staffordshire, is urging people to back local businesses struggling with the impact of the Brewood Bridge renovation.

Road closures were put in place more than six months ago after a sinkhole appearead on the bridge, which looks over the Shropshire Union Canal.

The Canal and River Trust, which is responsible for repairs, said it was hoping to begin work this summer.

But Hutchinson, who invested £1m into bringing the derelict pub back to life in 2024, said the closures were costing the business £5,000 a week.

He told the BBC: "It's [having] a massive knock-on effect. It's not going to be fixed If they don't get started with it.

"There's no consideration for local businesses and the local community in my opinion."

The Canal and River Trust said it aimed to work towards starting repairs in the summer, while ensuring the "right long term solution".

It involves a design that has been submitted to Staffordshire County Council for approval.

The trust said it knew how important the route was to the local community and appreciated their patience and understanding.
