Police say the man suffered serious head injuries on Claremont Road in Newcastle

A man is in a "life-threatening" condition after being pushed from a bicycle, police say.

Northumbria Police said the man, in his 50s, was riding the bike on Claremont Road in Newcastle at 17:10 BST on Thursday when he was approached by two people on a moped.

One of the people on the moped is reported to have pushed him off the bike causing him to fall to the ground, and he was subsequently taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

Two boys, aged 16 and 14, were arrested at Walker Park on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and remain in custody.

A section of Claremont Road is currently closed to traffic and a section of Walker Park also remains closed.
