Teenager fighting for life and driver hurt after crash on M80

A teenager has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after she was involved in a serious crash on the M80 in North Lanarkshire.

The 18-year-old was a passenger in a silver Volkswagen Golf, which left the road, near Moodiesburn, after it collided with a with a black Mercedes A200 at about 19:00 on Sunday.

Police said the 20-year-old male driver of the Golf was also taken to hospital for treatment but his injuries were not described as life-threatening.

Neither of the occupants of the Mercedes was injured.

The road was closed northbound for about three hours while officers carried out investigations.

Sgt Andrew Coutts said: "Our inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and I would urge anyone who may be able to help to get in touch.

"We would be keen to speak to anyone who may have dash cam footage from the area around the time of the collision as well."
