Girl, 17, sexually assaulted by man in Coatbridge

A 17-year-old girl has been sexually assaulted while walking along a lane in Coatbridge.

The teenager was approached by a man as she walked near Blair Road and Auldhame Street at about 01:00.

The attacker was described by police as being white, with dark hair and wearing a padded jacket and dark trousers.

Det Sgt Jo McCall said: "This was an extremely distressing incident for the victim and it's imperative we identify the man responsible."

She urged anyone with information, dashcam or private CCTV to contact police.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and who may have dashcam or private CCTV which could assist to contact us."

Inquiries are ongoing and there is an increased police presence in the area.
