Men of all ages are being invited to come along to free cooking classes designed to help them learn new skills, eat well and age well.

Mike Barlow from The Shed Tameside charity, based in Dukinfield, said they hoped the Men in Kitchens sessions would also help men to get out of the house and socialise, boosting their mental health along with their culinary skills.

The charity coordinator said the course aimed to build men's confidence in the kitchen, with some past participants having included men living on their own or caring for loved ones.

Men in the north of England did not tend to "age well" and one way to address this issue was through eating well, he added.

Barlow said the charity liked to offer a range of activities in addition to things like woodworking and the cookery classes were part of this.

Two taster days are taking place at the charity's Dukinfield base between 10:00 and 13:30 BST on Saturday 27 June 27 and Saturday 11 July.

Those who complete the taster session can then sign up for the full course, which runs for six weeks with one three-hour session each week.

The course includes sessions on knife skills, food preparation, cooking techniques, batch cooking and making healthier food choices.

The Shed charity was set up to encourage people to come together to make, repair and repurpose items, supporting projects in their local communities and to improve wellbeing, reduce loneliness and combat social isolation.
