Investigation launched into large heath fire

An investigation into the cause of a large heath fire is underway.

Crews from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (OFRS) and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) have managed to contain the blaze on Goring Heath, near Reading, Berkshire, which broke out on Monday afternoon.

OFRS said two fire appliances remained at the scene today "as a precaution while crews continue to monitor conditions".

It added that Long Toll Road remained closed to support ongoing operations.

Fourteen engines had been used and firefighters had worked "in extremely challenging conditions" to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further to nearby properties and land.

OFRS said it had succeeded in surrounding the fire and limited its impact.

It added crews continued to damp down hotspots and monitor the affected area, where land and several vehicles burnt out.

The rescue said the cause was currently unknown and a fire investigation was underway.
