Pub to be demolished in regeneration scheme
GoogleA Sheffield pub is set to be demolished as part of the Gleadless Valley regeneration scheme.
The John O Gaunt pub, on Blackstock Road, has been closed since 2022 and was damaged by an arson attack the following year.
Its demolition would make way for the newly-relaunched Vision for the Valley project, which is set for approval on Wednesday.
The plan, which was originally launched in 2018 then delayed, involves building about 1,100 new homes, three new or improved community centres and four new or improved parks.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, there will also be support for residents to find jobs, apprenticeships and training.
Sheffield City Council's finance and performance policy committee has been asked to sign off on funding the pub demolition work at a meeting on 15 December.
The final costs have been confirmed at £72,300, which is less than was originally budgeted.
A report to the committee said: "The building has remained vacant for some time and has fallen into a poor state of repair, with visible signs of deterioration, vandalism and general neglect.
"Its current structure and condition make it unsuitable for future use without significant investment.
"Given the plans for regeneration in the Gleadless Valley area, there is a desire to avoid disused/derelict buildings which can attract anti-social behaviour/vandalism and associated costs to council budgets."
The Gleadless Valley Regeneration Board, which is overseeing the Vision for the Valley, approved the demolition in June.
