A 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a teenage boy at Sheffield railway station.

The incident, involving a 17-year-old boy, was reported to have happened at about 15:30 GMT on Friday, according to British Transport Police.

A crime scene remained in place at the station while officers carried out forensic work, meanwhile the teenager was being supported by specially trained officers, a force spokesperson said.

The man who was arrested was later released on bail pending further inquiries, they added.

"Officers recognise the concern this news will cause, and can assure the public they are working at pace to establish what happened," the spokesperson said.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact British Transport Police.
