People warned to keep windows shut after huge trading estate fire

Firefighters have been dealing with a massive fire at an industrial estate that broke out in the middle of the night.

Residents reported hearing popping sounds and smelling smoke from Star Trading Estate in Caerleon, Newport.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it sent 10 fire engines following the 999 call at 02:42 BST.

People have shared photos on local Facebook group showing a black plume of smoke high over the site, while Public Health Wales has advised householders living in the area to keep their windows and doors closed.

The fire service said the site had been evacuated and all persons accounted for.

"Members of the public are urged to avoid the area to allow emergency services to carry out their work," it said.

"Due to smoke in the vicinity, residents are also advised to keep windows and doors closed."
