Roadworks to improve traffic flow set to begin

Roadworks to improve safety and traffic flow are set to begin in Oadby on Monday.

Leicestershire County Council said the £1.9m scheme would upgrade "busy transport hotspots", including The Parade and Brabazon Road junctions with the A6.

According to the council, phase one of the scheme - focused around The Parade junction - would include new and upgraded pedestrian and cycle crossings, improvements to footways, including resurfacing and the renewal of traffic signals.

The Reform UK-run authority said phase one was expected to last 16 weeks, with traffic management measures in place throughout - including temporary traffic lights, lane closures and, at times, closures of some side roads.

It added that the project would be funded through £900,000 from Active Travel England - following a successful bid - as well as £1m from the county council.

Disruption would be minimised by combining phase one work with planned resurfacing maintenance, the authority added.

The council said phase two of the project would focus on Brabazon Road and was expected to begin in early 2027.

Andrew Hamilton-Gray, cabinet member for highways, said: "Oadby is a consistently busy part of Leicestershire's transport network and so these upgrades will give the town a real boost.

"Making roads safer for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists is a top priority for the council and we appreciate residents' patience whilst we carry out necessary work."
