A council has appealed for witnesses after an outdoor theatre was vandalised by "selfish people".

Dartford Borough Council said the incident happened over the weekend in Central Park, in Kent.

It posted on social media saying the facility had suffered "major damages" which included the toilets, floorboards being ripped up and wall panels torn off.

"We're right in the middle of our summer season of events and this community space brings people together," the local authority wrote.

The council said the open theatre was for everyone to enjoy

"We've opened up this part of Central Park so everyone could enjoy it," the council added.

"We want to keep the park open for everyone to enjoy, regardless of a few selfish people who can't think of the wider community."

The local authority said it has been working "quickly" to reopen the theatre so community events due to take place in the summer could continue.

It added if anyone had information relating to the incident to contact the council.
