Three people have been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a crash involving two motorbikes in the Highlands.

The collision happened on the A87 near Cluanie at about 14:55 on Monday. It involved a black Royal Enfield Himalayan motorbike and a grey Yahama MT-09 Tracer bike.

A 42-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The rider of the Yamaha, a 39-year-old man, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where his condition is described as stable.

Police have urged anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, to get in touch.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said three ambulances, two doctors and three air ambulances - two with critical care teams - went to the scene.

The casualties were each taken to hospital by air ambulance, they confirmed.

The road was closed for seven hours to allow for crash investigation work to be carried out, with diversion routes of more than 100 miles put in place.

Police reopened the road around 22:10.

Sgt Chris Donaldson said: "Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

"If you were driving in the area around the time of the crash please check any dash-cam footage you have and call us if you have captured anything."
