Project to revamp junction to start in January
GoogleA major project to transform a junction in Derby to ease congestion is due to begin in January.
Derby City Council said works at the junction of Merrill Way, Chellaston Road (A514) and Boulton Lane would start on 5 January and continue for about seven months.
The authority said capacity at the junction would be increased in a bid to improve both traffic flow and the reliability of bus journey times, with new cycle lanes and crossings also implemented.
The East Midlands Combined County Authority has made £3m available to the council for the scheme, with further funding from developers Infinity Park Derby LLP, the authority added.
East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward said improving transport connections was a "key priority".
"By increasing capacity, supporting reliable public transport and making it safer and easier for people to walk and cycle, this scheme will support local growth while helping to create a more sustainable transport network for the future," she said.
Carmel Swan, Derby City Council's cabinet member for climate change, transport and sustainability, said the scheme promised "real benefits" for the area.
"I'm delighted that work will soon be starting as we continue to build towards a greener, better-connected Derby," she said.
