Nationwide has submitted plans to Highland Council for a defibrillator and bleed kits at its Eastgate branch

A building society has chosen Inverness as one of its UK high street branches where it plans to install defibrillators and bleed kits.

Nationwide plans to make the lifesaving equipment available at some of its sites, including at the Eastgate branch.

Defibrillators are used to help save a person who is having a cardiac arrest, while bleed kits provide first aid to a casualty suffering traumatic blood loss from an incident such as a stabbing.

Nationwide has submitted initial plans to Highland Council.

Each piece of equipment would be housed in its own dedicated cabinet.

In a planning statement, the building society said: "Nationwide Building Society are committed to supporting the communities they serve, with branches located at the centre of high streets across the UK.

"As part of this commitment to community wellbeing, they aim to install life savings equipment to some of their branches to ensure people have rapid, 24/7 access to vital emergency equipment whenever it is needed."
