A Titanic film script signed by the leading cast of the 1997 blockbuster has been sold at auction for £620.

The screenplay went under the hammer at Clevedon Salerooms in north Somerset on Thursday as part of a single-vendor collection built over many years.

Autographs include Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane (Cal Hockley), Kathy Bates (Molly Brown), Gloria Stuart (old Rose), and director James Cameron.

Henry Michallat, valuer and auctioneer, said the handwritten signatures enabled one fan to take home "a physical connection to one of the greatest films ever made".

He added: "[Scripts] don't come to auction that often compared to other Titanic memorabilia - pieces of furniture, ceramics, clothing - which usually fetch very high prices.

"So this was a really perfect, affordable piece for a fan."

The blockbuster follows the tragic love story of Jack and Rose, who are from different social classes, aboard the ill-fated maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic in 1912.

It became the first movie to surpass $1 billion at the global box office and ultimately grossed more than $2.2 billion worldwide.

It held the title of the highest-grossing film of all time for 12 years until Cameron's own Avatar surpassed it in 2009.

The signed Titanic script is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Starpower Autographs.

Michallat said three people "really, really wanted it" as they battled over the bidding.
