A man has died after a motorcycle and a car crashed near a North Yorkshire village, police have said.

The collision between the black Honda motorcycle and red Vauxhall Corsa took place on the A19, just north of Chapel Haddlesey at 13:50 BST on Friday.

The 34-year-old bike rider, from Selby, later died in hospital. North Yorkshire Police said the driver of the Corsa, an 18-year-old man, is helping officers with their enquiries.

A force spokesperson added that they are keen to speak to the driver of a red Seat Ibiza that was behind the Corsa as the driver may hold "vital information".

The man's family have been informed and any other witnesses have been urged to come forward.
