Two men have been taken to hospital following a stabbing in Cleethorpes, Humberside Police said.

Officers were called to the incident outside a fast food restaurant near Blundell Park at about 08:45 BST on Thursday after a report of an altercation between two men, the force said.

Both men involved were taken to hospital, with one of the men, aged 26, being treated for life-threatening injuries, a spokesperson added.

The other man, aged 39, is being treated for serious injuries.

Det Insp Tom Kelly said: "We believe this incident to be between people known to each other and there is no wider risk to the public."

"Inquiries remain ongoing, including house to house inquiries, and trawling CCTV to establish the full circumstances," he said.

"Members of the public can expect to see an increase in police presence and road closures are in place on Grimsby Road from Blundell Avenue, Grimsby, to Nevill Street, Cleethorpes.

"We would ask motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes where possible."

BBC reporter Lara King, who is at the scene, said: "A scene guard is still in place on Grimsby Road, which is closed.

"I'm surrounded by police cars and police vans.

"Scenes of crime officers are here as well and there is a knife in the middle of the road."
