Planners have been recommended to approve a 600-space multi-storey car park on the edge of a new Cambridge development.

The Cambridge North plans will eventually include over 400 homes and multiple business buildings next to Cambridge North Station.

Planning documents say the car park would be for "commercial business users only".

Councillors at the Greater Cambridge Joint Development Management Committee will decide on Wednesday whether to approve planning permission.

The development as a whole was given the go-ahead by the government in 2024, after initially being rejected by the local council.

The site of the car park was not included in the initial plans. However, the documents say it will replace plans for car parks in the basement levels of the new commercial buildings.

The wider development also includes plans for another multi-storey car park, known as a mobility hub, on the site of the existing car park for Cambridge North Station.

This space is designed for rail passengers, however planning documents suggest the new multi-storey could provide additional space for rail passengers in the future.

Cambridge North station opened in 2017. Since then a hotel and a multi-storey office building known as One Cambridge Square have opened.

The development was put forward by the Chesterton Partnership, which comprises Network Rail, DB Cargo and Brookgate.
