Hundreds of illegal tobacco and vape products have been seized during targeted raids on shops.

West Northamptonshire Council's Trading Standards team found them in shops in Northampton and Daventry.

Three establishments were visited and items were found - including more than 600 packets of illicit cigarettes, pouches of rolling tobacco and illegal vapes - some hidden behind an electric-powered wall and hinged shelving.

The council said all of the seized items would be destroyed and that it was "working with partners to take further action, including steps to prevent these businesses from future trading".

It warned businesses that selling illegal tobacco could lead to penalties of up to £10,000, alongside civil sanctions including seizure and destruction of products and – in some cases – criminal prosecution.
