An investigation has been launched after police confirmed a house fire in Inverness at the weekend was started deliberately.

The blaze began around 23:40 on Sunday at a property on Kessock Avenue.

Officers said it was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no one was injured.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said the fire was being treated as wilful and inquiries were ongoing.

Det Con Ryan Slaney said: "Thankfully no-one was injured as a result of this reckless act.

"I am appealing for anyone with information which could assist to contact us."
