Deputy Malcolm Ferey says the consultation will help officials to identify opportunities for improvements

Views are being sought on the process of buying and selling houses in Jersey in a bid to identify improvement opportunities on transactions.

The island's minister for housing has launched a public consultation to examine the current residential property transaction process, including what works well and what challenges arise.

Deputy Malcolm Ferey said officials wanted to hear from islanders, and property professionals, about their buying or selling experiences in a bid to identify what needed to be improved.

It follows a States Assembly decision to review the process. The consultation ends on 18 December.

Officials said the consultation aimed to gather evidence on the process before considering whether changes were needed.

Ferey added: "While many people complete the process without difficulty, others face delays, unexpected costs or uncertainty, and some sales fall through.

"Whether your experience was positive or negative, your views will help us better understand how the current process works in practice and identify opportunities for improvement."
