The States of Alderney has announced it is looking for organisations interested in providing aviation fuel services at the airport.

It said the request for proposals from organisations was part of ongoing efforts to improve operational flexibility at the airport and enhance services for aircraft operators using the island.

It was looking for suppliers of Jet A1 fuel and Avgas, for which there is currently no provision.

The government said the request for proposals was available through the Guernsey Procurement Portal and asked interested organisations to review the documentation and submit applications before the window closed at 12:00 BST on 7 July.

The States said the aim was to support the needs of scheduled commercial air services, emergency and rotary operations, and the wider general aviation community.

Jeannie Cameron, chair of the Policy & Finance Committee, said: "Restoring fuel provision at Alderney Airport is an important step in supporting the island's air connectivity and strengthening the services available to both commercial and private aviation users, as well as enhancing economic development.

"By taking an outcome-focused approach to this procurement, we are encouraging suppliers to bring forward innovative and practical solutions that can meet Alderney's unique requirements."

She said: "This has been a priority for us and I'm delighted we have now reached this stage. We look forward to reviewing the proposals received and exploring how fuel provision can be re-established in a sustainable and cost-effective way."
