A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a cyclist was stabbed on a popular walking and cycling route.

Avon and Somerset Police said officers were called to the Bristol and Bath Railway Path near Bitton, South Gloucestershire, shortly after 20:00 BST on Tuesday.

Officers said the male victim was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries believed to have been caused by "a bladed weapon".

The path remains closed while investigations continue, but police said they will reopen it at the earliest opportunity.

The suspect remains in custody and police have asked anybody with information about the incident to contact them.
