A woman whose death has prompted a murder investigation has been named by police as Gosia Wiktor.

Wiktor, 51, was found seriously injured at a property on Foster Square, in the Belle Isle area of Leeds, on Thursday morning and died at the scene.

A 52-year-old man, who was taken to hospital in a "critical condition" and arrested on suspicion of murder, is now in police custody, West Yorkshire Police said on Monday.

In a tribute issued through police, Wiktor's family described her as "a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and cousin", who was "the heart of our family" and "a source of warmth, love, and joy".

Her family said Wiktor's death had left "an emptiness that nothing can fill" and that the pain felt by the family "is beyond words".

"We still cannot believe that we will no longer hear your laughter, see your smile," the statement said.

"We are not able to say goodbye. That is why we will not say 'farewell,' because we believe that love is stronger than death. Instead, we will simply say: 'Stay close'.

"Forever in our hearts and thoughts. Your loving family."
