Historic railway line calls for visitor tips

A historic railway line is looking for passengers' best recommendations for places to visit.

The Settle to Carlisle line, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary, is calling for people to share tips on attractions, places to eat and top sights along its 72 miles.

They will be gathered and shared on the line's free app, Traxplorer, which already includes information on what people can see from their windows during the journey, the line's history and station guides.

Karen Morley-Chesworth, the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company community rail officer, said the app also provided information on buses and other connections.

She said: "We are asking our passengers to share with everyone their favourite places to visit, eat and drink along the line, to provide more support for local businesses and enhance people's visits."

The app has been funded by Northern, Community Rail Network and CrossCountry and is free to download and use.

Northern's customer director Alex Hornby called for the thousands of people who already travelled on the line during its anniversary to share their tips.

He said: "There are plenty of opportunities to get off and explore the breath-taking countryside, and the charming towns and villages along the way."
